After the huge success of the movie “Miss Granny” in 2014, the TV version “Who Is She” (Vietnamese title: Grandma Returns to Spring) has officially aired. With an engaging plot, exploring profound values about love, family and youth, the film quickly attracted the attention of the audience. “Who Is She” recorded a relatively positive rating of 3.9% nationwide and 3.7% in urban areas for the first episode. The film is expected to create a strong hit for the Korean small screen at the end of the year.
Miss Granny was released in 2014 and immediately shook the Korean film industry when it set a box office record with more than 8.66 million tickets sold and revenue of more than 1,497 billion VND. The resounding success of the film has inspired a series of remakes. To date, the film has been remade in 7 countries, including China, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Vietnam and Germany. In Vietnam, the film was localized under the title Em La Ba Noi Cua Anh, directed by Phan Gia Nhat Linh, with the participation of Miu Le and Ngo Kien Huy.
Following the premise of the original, Who Is She revolves around Oh Mal Soon - a mother, a grandmother and a woman who has devoted her whole life to sacrificing for her family. After her husband passed away, Oh Mal Soon raised her children and ran a small restaurant alone. One day, after an argument with her daughter Ji Suk, she decided to leave home.
At the age of 70, deep down, Mrs. Mal Soon feels lonely and sad, because it seems that no one in her family recognizes her sacrifices. She regrets that she was never able to fully live her youthful days. And then, a miracle happens, she suddenly returns to the body and vitality of a young girl. Taking advantage of this opportunity, she decides to change her name to Oh Doo Ri, fulfill her unfulfilled dreams of the past and once again enjoy her golden years.
Blending a bit of the youthful spirit of 17 Again, a bit of the sharpness of 200 Pounds Beauty and a bit of the fantasy element of The Man from the Future, Who Is She is a warm and touching story about the past, about regrets in life, aging and especially the sacred love of motherhood. The film skillfully depicts the journey to regain youth, at the same time evoking deep emotions about family and forgiveness.
