This microscopic handbag with the size of 657x222x700 micrometers was made by MSCHF - a creative collective in the U.S.
On June 14, MSCHF - Miscellaneous Mischief - a U.S. art collective revealed they were planning to launch a micro handbag. This is known as a miniature version of Louis Vuitton’s OnTheGo product.
The bag measures 657x222x700 micrometers, smaller than a grain of sea salt, and narrow enough to pass through the eye of a needle. These products are so tiny that during delivery, the research group lost some of them. However, at least one remaining handbag that is now stored in a preinstalled seal gel case under the microscope with a digital display will be exhibited at the end of this month.
People need to observe via a microscope in order to have a closer look at this green handbag. When being enlarged under a microscope, the bag appears with a translucent handle, Louis Vuitton’s iconic monograms, and other vignette decorations.
This handbag is made from plastic via a special 3D printing technology that can make really tiny objects called “two-photon polymerization (2PP).” This makes the handbag a unique and impressive design.
Kevin Wiesner - the chief creative officer of MSCHF - said that he chose the handbag sample of OnTheGo because of its basic rectangle shape, striking logo, and it can be easily reproduced at a small scale. Also, its vibrant color and gentle translucency make the bag become more visible when illuminated by a microscope.
Mr. Wiesner claimed that MSCHF used Louis Vuitton’s logo or design without asking for permission.
The product is expected to be sold at two auctions, including Just Phriends, organized by the former director of Colette boutique in Paris; and Joopiter, an auction founded by Pharrell Williams.
