Nothing heralds Spring like a new ‘do’ so we asked the very fabulous Emma Simmons from Salon 54 what looks she would be proposing to her clients:

Hair Magazine - NEW YEAR NEW HAIR TRENDS WITH EMMA SIMMONS

“Super long has and will always be sported by many young girls, but for those clients that just can’t seem to get there a New Year means a new look.

“As a cutter I’m pretty excited for the upcoming season, and I’ll be encouraging my clients to opt for something more individual to them and their hair type, but my shears are at the ready for a season of shorter styles.

“With the popularity of the boyfriend bob (a blunt cut, undone short little number) this winter, moving into 2023 we are going to see a lot more clients opting for the chop. And there’s no surprise that this jaw skimming bob is still going to be in high demand, it’s a timeless classic and totally chic.

“The BIXIE – already we’ve seen a small trend in this textured take on a grown out pixie crop – not yet a full bob but with the easy styling and soft sexy look of this style, it’s a perfect option for those wanting a feminine yet short look without being too drastic.

“Strong shapes are going to be a key statement in 2023, I’m thinking a wide range including short crops, shags and mullets or simply haircuts that work with natural curls and movement, as we are seeing a move towards embracing natural texture.

“Our love of the 70’s inspired styles like the wolf cut will continue into the new year with a shorter version of the SHAG. A flattering combination of face-framing layers and versatile length.  This allows the cut to work on most hair types and face shapes. It is low-maintenance, and it encourages and enhances the hair’s natural movement, too.”
