A resilient young man between the choices of fashion and social responsibility

Tung Vu began his story by talking about the two things that have been closely tied to him in recent years: fashion and social work. From one perspective, these two paths may seem parallel, but when combined in his life, they suddenly become harmonious and deeply connected. Fashion is where he expresses his individuality, style, and constant innovation. Social work, on the other hand, is a space that allows him to engage with deeper issues, to listen, and to take action for a more livable community.

Tung’s fashion achievements include being in the Top 20 of Mr World Vietnam 2024, which brought him closer to the general public, and winning the runner-up title at the Korean – Vietnamese Fashion Model 2024, clearly proving his talent, skills, and relentless training. However, what makes him most proud is not the spotlight, but the opportunity to be nominated as Vietnam’s representative at the Young Environmental Leaders Dialogue, organized by the U.S. Diplomatic Mission and YNet Vietnam. To appear at a regional event alongside outstanding individuals from across Asia, Tung had to surpass many other candidates with impressive accomplishments—a journey that demanded not just confidence, but perseverance and a spirit of continuous learning.

The passion sparked by challenges

When asked about his biggest challenge, Tung openly shared about the period when he had to deal with work overload. In the fast-paced rhythm of modern life, pressure came not only from others’ expectations but also from his own perfectionism and desire to excel in every role at once. There were days he had to operate like a machine, juggling a packed schedule—from casting for shows, working on personal projects, to preparing presentations for environmental forums.

However, what helped him overcome it all was his persistent effort and ability to “recharge” proactively. He learned to rest at the right time, to restore emotions through favorite activities, and to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Tung believes that no one walks through life without stumbling, but as long as you keep the original passion alive, every setback becomes part of the growth journey.

To him, the most important factor for going the distance in any field is professional passion—the fire that never stops burning and keeps pushing you forward. Working in creative industries requires constant self-renewal, continuous observation, and staying updated with trends. Only by keeping your excitement for the craft can you truly reach its depth and create genuine value through your work.

Inspiring with targeted actions

If he had to choose one image to inspire others, Tung wouldn’t pick a glamorous magazine cover or a moment of receiving a title. Instead, he would choose the moment he received a Certificate of Recognition from the Executive Director of the SEAMEO Center and the image of himself on the runway at Global Junior Fashion Week. These two seemingly contrasting snapshots perfectly complement his personal message: anyone can grow fully in different fields—as long as they dare to step out of their comfort zone and pursue what they believe in.

On one hand, he continuously deepens his academic knowledge to contribute to the community through practical projects. On the other, he hones his performance skills, his sensitivity to visual storytelling, and his stage presence to refine his demeanor—a silent language capable of spreading positive energy to many.

Believing in personal values and daring to dream big

The message Tung wants to share with the global community closely reflects his own journey: “Each of us carries a unique value. Believe in yourself, keep learning, don’t shy away from challenges, and always dare to dream big—because dreams are the beginning of great change.”

For the young generation forging their paths, Tung understands that the real challenge sometimes lies not in ability, but in staying true to oneself amid countless expectations and prejudices. Yet, choosing not to compromise your identity just to please others is perhaps the clearest sign of growth. Being loved for who you truly are is the most valuable thing of all.
